Drowning

I look inside

I see darkness

Lost thoughts flutter

Look toward the horizon 

Breathe in the last drops of sunshine

Colors blur and dissipate 

Into the darkness that surrounds us all

Holding the dreams in one

The aspired in the other

Crumbs fall from both

The breeze blows back my wonders

Holds me captive from the ground

I am lost.  I am alone.

I find myself drowning in

Nothing.  Nothing holds me under

The surface is finger tips away

To grab hold of anything

Is to break through the nothing

But I slowly sink

Back into the calmed waters

A faint memory

Could have never existed

But I see the crumbs

That once held the future

Dreams that shattered

Following me into the nothingness.
